“Colleen” is a song on Newsom’s EP “Joanna Newsom and the Ys Street Band”. It reimagines a popular Irish myth that follows a Selkie, a half-seal and half-human creature, who washes up ashore and tries to assimilate into human society. Despite her attempts to obey the laws of the land, she is left for a deep longing for the sea, her true home, and eventually escapes into it.
